One Room Challenge | Week 3 | Toddler Girl’s Bedroom

ORC Fall 2020: Sharing progress of our toddler girl’s room

Bedroom Swing

It’s week three of One Room Challenge and between a super busy work week, my husband being out of town, and my grandpa’s funeral, progress was really lacking. Until today! Scroll to see the updates and what’s left to complete.

Completed: Stain and Assemble Big Girl Bed

Last week I shared the toddler girl’s boho room mood board and mentioned that I was working on sanding down her big girl bed to stain it a different color. I loved the original warm tones of the bed, but it clashed with the light grey tones in the floor. It took a bit of experimenting but I think I landed on the perfect shade for the space. I also have to say, I was SO impressed by the quality of this bed. It’s solid wood, was super easy to assemble, and I had purchased it during a sale for less than $150! Definitely one to bookmark!

DIY Driftwood Whitewash

Here was the magic mix I used to get the look you see on the right that ended up feeling very Restoration Hardware:

  • Sand off original finish moving from coarse to finer paper for a better stain finish

  • Pre-stain to avoid blotching

  • Drift stain (I used a custom mix left from our build but a “driftwood” color should do the trick)

  • Varathane Antique White Poly + Stain

  • Sand with 220 grit to let a little more wood show through

Completed: Hang Hammock Swing

My mom was happy to help me hang this sweet little hammock swing and I was so happy for the help! Once we finally located the stud the install was pretty smooth. (I used this kit.)

Here’s what’s left to make or install over the next few weeks:

DIY Headboard
Hoping to start working on it this week

Wall of Flowers
Using these CB2 vases

Curtains
I need to make an IKEA run!

Bookshelf Styling
Creating a beautiful, hardworking space on her IKEA billy bookshelf

Bedding
I already took advantage of a Beddy’s sale and got this perfectly neutral, appropriately named, “Naturally Boho” bedding. I’m using the cutest floral pillow cases that were my grandma’s and I also have this adorable Target pillow and this Target throw blanket. Just need to figure out a couple more pieces!

Night Stand
Still TBD what I want to do for this! Any suggestions? Comment below!
