One Room Challenge | Week 1 | Toddler Girl’s Bedroom

ORC Fall 2020: Kicking off week one with a peek at our daughter’s blank canvas bedroom.

I’m the type of person who needs timelines and deadlines. (And frankly, I think anyone who doesn’t might be a robot.) So if I’m going to give this blogging thing a go, the One Room Challenge seems like a great way to try and post regularly and get a project completed in the process.

What’s the One Room Challenge? Simple: it’s an eight-week online challenge to transform one room. It is not a competition. It’s just a place to share ideas, find inspiration and motivation, and make connections. Participants commit to posting weekly updates of their room progress, with the goal of revealing a finished space they love at the end of the challenge. (Scroll down to see some amazing spaces others created for past ORCs!)

Since we recently finished building our home, there are a lot of blank canvases to choose from. I thought our two-year-old daughter’s room would be a good place to start because it’s a nearly empty room right now and she’s been asking for a “big girl bed.” (Plus, kids’ rooms are just fun.)

THE BEFORE: Our little one is eager to turn this blank canvas into a big girl room.

Over the next eight weeks, I’ll share plans for the room (including any sources) and document the transformation here and on instagram.

Since we just moved in, I’m fortunate to have a head start with a wall color we love (Benjamin Moore “Stonewashed”), a new rug , and the sweetest light fixture. (Rug and light sourced here!) Beyond that, the room is nearly empty. Next week I’ll share inspiration for the room and a design plan and projects I hope to include. You can follow along on instagram for sneak peeks and stories!

In the meantime, here are a few ORC spaces others created for past challenges that I’ve loved! You can see that they’ve set the bar quite high!
